'Onam Mood’: How a peppy track from 'Sahasam' perfectly captured the spirit of the season

There’s probably no other song right now that has captured the vibrant spirit of Onam quite like 'Onam Mood' from the film 'Sahasam', composed by Bibin Ashok. While it took some time to gain traction, the song has now become a festive favourite, with audiences celebrating it widely through social media reels. As of Thursday, the track crossed 20 million views on YouTube.

Bibin Ashok, who composed the song, said the film’s director was keen on including a celebratory track dedicated to Onam within the movie.
“The second half of the film unfolds over the course of a single day. There are a few quirky situations that take place, and it was important to have a song that felt festive and energetic. The director was very particular that it had to be an upbeat number,” Bibin said.

Speaking to Onmanorama, director Bibin added that while many songs have captured the Onam mood, most tend to be melodic.
“There's definitely an audience for those, but we felt the need for something more upbeat and spirited,” he explained.

Lyricist Vinayak Sasikumar penned the words for the song. “Vinayak has a great knack for connecting with the younger audience through his lyrics,” said Bibin. “Though the structure of the song stayed the same, both the lyrics and the composition went through a couple of revisions. Fejo’s vocals were a perfect fit—especially his timbre.”
The final version of the song was slightly trimmed from the original cut. The movie 'Sahasam' starring Babu Antony and Narain in the leads hit theatres last month and is expected to lock its OTT release soon.
