Thrissur-born electronic artist Hrishikesh Krishna known by his pseudonymn Hrishi has unveiled a new single, Chamayam, inspired by the vibrant festival culture of Kerala. Known for blending regional sounds with contemporary electronic production, Hrishi’s latest track delves deep into the heart of Thrissur’s iconic Pooram celebrations. This release features his friends Seth and Sam—Seth, a native of Thrissur, and Sam, an outsider experiencing the festival for the first time. Chamayam captures the raw intensity and communal spirit of Pooram, with its pulsating rhythms and collective energy. A unique element of the track is Hrishi’s collaboration with Aattam Kalasamithi, a traditional performance group he’s been following since childhood.

Hrishi says the Thrissur Pooram was an integral part of his life. “I’ve been a Pooram kid for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Thrissur, Pooram wasn’t just a festival; it was a feeling. The build-up, the chenda melam, the lights, and the crowd—they all create an energy that stays with you. I wanted to channel that collective emotion into sound, creating something for my hometown that truly encapsulates the festival experience.” He went on to highlight the dual perspectives embedded in Chamayam: one from a local’s view, celebrating his city, and the other from a newcomer, experiencing Pooram for the first time. “The collaboration with Seth and Sam brought these two perspectives to life,” he said.
