The long queues at the OP ticket counters in government hospitals are often a nightmare for many. People of all ages, including children and the elderly, have to wait for hours in line to purchase OP tickets. They would then wait outside various consulting rooms for their turn to see the doctor. Visiting a government hospital is often a strenuous and tiring experience for many. However, you can save time and effort by booking OP tickets online. Alappuzha district medical officer Dr Jamuna Varghese explains how online OP booking works across government hospitals in Kerala.

How to book OP ticket online?
The patient should log in to the Kerala EHealth portal using their Unique Health Identification (UHID) and registered phone number. Select the hospital, speciality department and vacant slot from the drop-down list. Now, choose a token number and hit confirm. The fees can also be paid online. An online OP ticket could also be booked by downloading the MeHealth application from the Google Play Store. After the booking is complete, patients will receive the token number via SMS. They could then show this number at the hospital.

Why do you need the UHID card?
A person's comprehensive health data is linked to their UHID card. The treatment information would be uploaded online upon presentation of the UHID card at the hospital. This data could also be accessed at the e–health portal. Those without a UHID should provide their Aadhaar number and mobile number on the e–health portal for registration.

The Unique Health Identification number will be generated once the OTP sent to the patient's mobile number is entered. The UHID generated during the first booking will remain permanent. You can register using your UHID by providing your mobile number from next time onwards. UHID registration can also be completed at the OP counters in hospitals.
Note: OP tickets at more than 300 hospitals can be booked via the Ehealth website.
