A few days ago, popular influencer and TV anchor Karthik Surya revealed that he had fainted out of the blue while having food. Apparently, he lost consciousness soon after sneezing, while having food at a Kochi hotel with his wife, Varsha. Though Karthik tried to have some water when he felt dizzy, he fainted before he could drink it. A piece of his food also got accidentally lodged in his lungs when he sneezed, says Karthik.
Varsha apparently tried to give him first aid, and Karthik vomited the food, too. He was later admitted to the hospital and discharged post-emergency treatment. The condition he underwent is called Situational Syncope. Dr Rijo Mathews of VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi, who treated Karthik, explains what it is all about.
