Thiruvananthapuram: Finance minister Thomas Isaac allocated Rs 2,500 crore for the Kerala government’s flagship Life Mission housing program, with an aim to construct the maximum number of houses for the underprivileged in the next one year.
What is Life Mission:
A program launched by the Kerala government to provide a house to all the landless and homeless people in the state within five years. The mission is chaired by the chief minister.
Who are eligible?
• Those who don’t own any land
• Those who own land but don’t have a house
• Those who are unable to complete house construction
• Those who have houses that are not livable
• Those who are living in government land and coastal areas
• Those who are living in temporary shelters in plantation areas
A breakdown of people identified to provide support under Life Mission:
• Own no land or house: 3,38,456
• Own land but no house: 1,74,990
Total: 5,13,446 (preliminary list)
Thiruvananthapuram accounts for the highest number of beneficiaries identified on the preliminary list.
