A Kerala girl has designed an app that would allow users to keep a track of their loved ones and ensure their safety. The Android app named Gleegy marries the benefits of Google Maps and social media.

Sreemol K Eldhose, an engineering student in Salem in Tamil Nadu, set up a startup named Gleegy on Monday along with her friends. Sreemol, who hails from Muvattupuzha, is the Chief Executive Officer of the company operating out of the Nasscom Startup Warehouse in the Infopark Campus in Kochi.

Once the app is downloaded from Play Store, users can invite relatives and friends to join their network. People in the network can track each other. This will be a boon for people worried about their relatives’ safety when they move around.

In case you are stranded on road, people at home would be able to know it. In any emergency, all you have to do is to press the panic button on the app to send a distress message to people close to you.

Users can choose to share their location only with their loved ones. No one can send you a friend request unless they have your email id or phone number

Aby Thomas, C S Jobin, Sabith, Sharan, Salih Muhammed, Vaishakh and Aswathy are the other members of the young team.

The app has been downloaded about 500 times since its soft launch a month ago. The team is planning to monetize the app through ads and push services.
