Tulsi is the favourite flower of Lord Vishnu. No wonder it is also called Vishnupriya. It is symbolic of Lakshmi.
In Sanskrit, Tulsi means without parallels. There is no other plant which can match the qualities of tulsi.
You have to be clean while approaching tulsi. You can pluck tulsi only in the daytime, facing the east. Do not pluck tulsi on a dark-moon day and solar and lunar eclipses. Tuesdays and Fridays are not a good time to pluck tulsi.
It is a good thing to plant tulsi in front of your house and nurture it. Water it daily and light a lamp in front of it every evening.
Never pluck tulsi leaves except for worshiping or for medicinal needs. Tulsi infused water is good for the mind and the body.
