The elevation is modern-contemporary in style, the land, a steep slope. The 2,700 sqft structure built on it is striking, quite an eye-turner.
Muhammad Jaleel from Edavanna in Malappuram did not think twice before putting up the structure on 20 cents of steep sloping land. All he wanted was to preserve the natural landscape and build a structure, which would look imposing when viewed at from outside and aesthetic while staying indoors. Jaleel, an NRI, wanted the best design for his house. Fulfilling his wishes was designer Raouf from Architectural Studio, Manjeri.
The elevation stands quite far from the main gate. This enhances the beauty of the sprawling garden and the surroundings. The design element, which makes the structure look so imposing, is the layout of the slanting plot, which was retained the way it was. This enabled the elaborate landscaping, which complements the style of the structure.
Interlocking tiles have been paved all over. The lush green of the lawn, the trees and the lights are factors, which add to the design’s richness. The four sloping roofs in different elevations add to the overall structural beauty. The tiles laid over the roofs and the cladding tiles on several parts of the elevation are what define the quality of the structure’s visual effect.
The sit-out is long and sleek. Apart from the main door, another door from the sit-out leads to the living space inside. The highlight of the interior is the magnificent glass flooring by the side of the staircase. The pebbles and LEDs inside give the place an out-of-this-world look. The lights from within this space brighten up the interiors and no other lighting is necessary by night.
The custom-made furniture brightens up the drawing room. The marble flooring is fetching. Two big walls of the drawing room have been done up in polished plywood paneling. This is where space has been provided for the TV unit.
The semi-partition is another design highlight, which separates the dining from the living space. Polished bamboo strips decorate the space and give it a novel design touch. The space within has been filled with pebbles. What makes the dining area striking is the wall décor in paneled wood from floor to ceiling.
The staircase is structured in the “suspend” style, a feature which does not eat away too much room. It’s teak wood for the staircase steps and stainless steel pipes for handrails. A small storage space has been provided below the staircase.
The kitchen is simple and elegant. The storage units are all in multiwood. The counter top is in black granite.
The children’s bedrooms are colorful and attractive. The pink color theme enhances the design of the beds done up in the “Cars” theme. The house has four bedrooms with attached bathrooms. The false ceilings in gypsum-plywood-veneer add to the bedroom décor. The Roman blinds, which cover the windows, have been put up to match the theme of each room.
The compound wall is an extension of the design of the main structure. The whole place is one stunning sight by night when the house and the lawns stand bathed under the lights provided all around.
