Kochi: Better Kochi Response Group has come up with a novel idea to build low cost and durable houses, at the flood hit areas, using old containers which are commonly used to ship goods.
It would cost only around Rs 2.2 lakhs to build a container house which has a bedroom, verandah, common area, kitchen and toilet. BKRG president architect S Gopakumar says that container houses are easy to be built, movable and its construction cost is significantly less.
The base of the house, septic tank and drinking water facilities should be arranged from the locality where the house is erected. The estimated amount does not include the charges incurred for the above facilities.
Associations, organizations, local governing bodies and companies can sponsor such houses as part of the relief activities.
S Gopakumar has informed that BKRG is willing to provide the technical assistance in this regard at Kochi.
