Raghavan Nambiar, a lawyer based in Kozhikode, Kerala, wanted to build a quaint house at his hometown in Thottilpalam. Nambiar, whose son is settled in the United States and daughter is in Bengaluru, had asked his architects to design a beautiful house which is suited for a single inhabitant.
The 781 sq ft house stands in a 5.7 cents plot and has a sit-out, living-cum-dining hall, a bedroom and a kitchen with an adjacent work area. Aluminum roofing sheet is installed right beside the structure to make it a car porch. The interiors, which are lesser in area, are designed in the open style. It makes movement easier inside the house.
The TV unit is installed on the wall in the dining area. An impressive collection of books are neatly stacked in a shelf arranged on another wall. The kitchen is small and the cupboards here are done in multi-wood finish. Granite is paved on the counter top.

Among several factors, which contributed towards keeping the expenses low, the decision to cement - plaster just the outer wall in the front side played a vital role. The rest of the house features walls in exposed laterite stones. Old roofing tiles were polished and paved on the roof. Used doors and windows were purchased to install in this house.
Truss work is done on the roof without concreting, thereby saving considerable amount of money. Putty finish alone is done on the walls without applying coats of paint.
