Cool and earthy, this exotic Kasaragod house is winning hearts

Wall cladding with laterite stones and the pillars in front of the house add a rustic charm to the exteriors.

Sasikumar’s unique house at Choyyamkode in Kasaragod district in Kerala stands out for its astounding features. The house that is designed in the traditional style amazingly reflects the earthy spirit of the countryside. Locally available laterite stones and timber are mostly used in the construction of this house.

The house stands on a spacious plot that is 14.5 cents in area. As the plot is not just beside the main road, the elevation is designed minimally without any fancy features. There is a gap between the truss work and the roof. Traditional mud roofing tiles are paved on the truss work. Wall cladding with laterite stones and the pillars in front of the house add a rustic charm to the exteriors. The front yard is paved with laterite stones to allow rain water to seep into the earth. The boundary wall too is built using laterite stones.

The beautiful house, designed in 1536 sq ft area, has a sit-out, living area, dining space, courtyard, kitchen and three bedrooms.

The interiors aren’t overcrowded with decor features; instead, the openly designed spaces are decorated with minimal yet elegant furnishing. The entrance door opens to an L-shaped living area. The TV unit is arranged here.

The courtyard is the highlight of the interiors. The open ceiling here invites sunshine and rain into the interiors. Meanwhile, GI grilles are installed for additional safety. This safety grill can be opened and closed whenever required. The bar counter that is arranged here is equally suave and exotic. Natural stones are paved on the floor of the courtyard. The beautiful courtyard could be viewed from the living area as well. The quaint wash area, meanwhile, is installed on the wall just beside the courtyard.

The dining table is closer to the kitchen. The frame of the dining table and the chairs are made in mahogany. The glass top adds a modern look to the dining table set.

The kitchen has been designed giving prime importance to storage facilities. The under and overhead cabinets are all done in mahogany. Meanwhile, the counter top is paved with black granite. Interestingly, the pantry counter here could be used as a breakfast counter as well.

The three bath attached bedrooms are extremely simple and elegant.

The most amazing fact about this house is its amazingly cool and comfortable interiors. Kasaragod district generally records around 35 degree Celsius, which may go up to 40 degree Celsius during harsher summers. However, the intensity of the heat would not be felt inside the house. Moreover, one feels extremely cool when they come inside this house from the blazing sun outside.
