The COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown in an attempt to tame the pandemic have forced the world to stay indoors. Dr. Sajeevan and his wife Jeeba say that the lockdown was announced after they moved into their brand new house in Thrissur, Kerala. They have chosen the unique colonial theme as they wanted their house to stand out. Features that are unique to the colonial architecture like the steep roof and the natural stone claddings could be seen on the elevation of this house. A spacious front yard and aesthetically designed landscape too play vital roles in enhancing the appeal of the house that stands in a 20 cents plot. The boundary wall too follows the white and grey colour theme of the house.

This majestic mansion, designed in 3000 sq ft area, has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining area, courtyard, island kitchen, work area, five bedrooms, upper living area, balcony and an open terrace as well.

The serene charm of the white colour theme dominates the house. The interior spaces look vaster and spacious as the walls don a white hue. Vitrified tiles in white and cream shades are paved on the floor.

The entrance door opens to the formal living area that is designed in double height. The family living area, meanwhile, is closer to the dining space. The blue furnishing adds a pop of colour here. A TV unit too has been arranged in the family living area.

The dining table has a bench on one side. Nano white is paved on GI frame to build the dining table. The courtyard is just beside the wash area. The jali work with CNC cutting is the highlight here. Artificial grass is paved on the floor in the courtyard. This area is one of the liveliest spots in the house as it brings in lots of natural sunshine and cool air.

The hand railings of the stairway feature stainless steel and toughened glass. A small office room is arranged below the stairway to utilize the space more meticulously.

The island kitchen could be used as a breakfast counter as well. The cupboards here are built in plywood and mica finish. Meanwhile, nano white is paved on the counter top. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen area.

The spaces in this house are arranged by strictly following the rules of the vastusastra. So, the house boasts of excellent cross ventilation.
