Elegant Kodungallur house with stunning designs embraces nature

The elevation features the contemporary flat – box style look with a sleek design.

For Subramanian, his brand new house at the culturally vivid city of Kodungallur in Thrissur district in Kerala is not just an abode to live, but also a beautiful space where he could enjoy some memorable moments with his close friends. Noted architect Surya Prashant of MudBricks Architects has amazingly designed this dwelling by catering to the likes and interests of the family members.

The owner wanted spacious common areas where he could comfortably host his friends and guests. Besides, the family wished to retain the grand old mango trees and the thulasi thara (a platform where Holy basil is grown) that stood in the front yard. The landscape has been smartly designed to include these too. Moreover, the golden blossoms of the kani konna (cassia fistula) add dramatic touch to the amazing front yard.

The elevation features the contemporary flat – box style look with a sleek design. The wooden composite panels, meanwhile, highlight the stylish features of the house. Designed in 4500 sqft, this spectacular dwelling has a sit-out, foyer, formal and family living areas, dining areas, two courtyards, and kitchen with work area, five bedrooms and upper living area. The spaces have been conveniently separated into public – family and private areas.

The elegantly furnished formal living area is arranged just beside the foyer. The glass wall that illuminates the area with abundant sunshine and brings in the fabulous views of the front yard is the highlight of the formal living area.

From here, one could enter the spacious family living area which is tastefully decorated with customized furniture pieces. Interestingly, this area also acts as a space that connects both the floors. The TV unit has been smartly separated to allow viewing from the dining area too. The jali windows beside the stairway ensure amazing cross ventilation and uninterrupted supply of natural light.

The double courtyards are the eye-catching features of the interiors. The inner courtyard that is designed in double-height, with a pergola skylight ceiling, is indeed a mesmerizing spot. The pebble paved flooring, attractive wall claddings and indoor plants make this area a haven of tranquility.

Meanwhile, the side courtyard too is an interesting feature. The outer spaces have been smartly incorporated with the interiors by installing grilles for safety. The mesmerizing beauty of vines and a splendid water body make this area an absolute winner. The family really enjoys the unique ambience of this beautiful area.

The simple dining table has a bench on one side. The kitchen has a serving counter that opens to the dining area. This counteracts as a study table for the children and a quaint snack bar too. High chairs have been arranged here to make it a convenient and efficient space.

There are two bedrooms in the ground floors while three are in the upper storey. The bedrooms are spacious and boast all the modern amenities. The bath attached bedrooms have full-length wardrobes for storage.

The brilliantly designed house perfectly complements the fabulous nature that surrounds the structure. The gleaming sun rays and the cool breeze that come in through the huge windows and jails, and the presence of the cooling water body and lush greenery give a delightful ambience to the interiors. The family too is elated that they got the house of their dreams where modern amenities meet spectacular nature.
