As part of celebrating the Wildlife Week, an online presentation competition was conducted by Aranyakam Nature Foundation on the conservation of wildlife outside protected areas - wildlife sanctuaries and national Parks - for the undergraduate and post-graduate students from colleges across Kerala and the winners were announced.
Lulu Mujeeb Rahman, a BSc Botany graduate from Devagiri College, Kozhikkode, was awarded the first prize for her presentation on conservation of wetlands in Mavoor.
Saranya, a BSc Botany graduate from SD College Alappuzha, won the second place for her presentation on conservation strategies for the wildlife in Alappuzha. Meanwhile, Christina Jacob, an MSc Zoology graduate from Dr. Gafoor Memorial MES College Mampad, was adjudged third for her presentation on the conservation of wildlife outside protected areas in Nilambur.
Over 150 participants responded to contest and 12 presentations were shortlisted on the basis of merit. A jury comprising experts Dr. PS Easa, Chairman of Aranyakam Nature Foundation and Former Director, KFRI; Dr. Ajith Kumar, Former Director NCBS Wildlife Course; James Zacharias, Former Deputy Conservator of Forests; Shilpa V Kumar IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests evaluated the live presentations and selected the winners.
