Kochi: Gold price soared to a record high of Rs 62,480 per sovereign (8gm) in Kerala on Tuesday, driven by increasing demand in the domestic market. Manorama News reported that gold price rose by Rs 840 per sovereign and Rs 105 per gram. The yellow metal was priced at Rs 61,960 per 8 gm on February 1. But it decreased to Rs 61,640 on Monday before the spike on Tuesday.

According to gold merchants, the price first touched the Rs 60,000 per sovereign mark in January. They expect the price to continue to rise in the coming days.
