New Delhi: Sheila Dikshit, 81, three-time chief minister of Delhi, will contest the Lok Sabha election from North East Delhi. The party released a list of six candidates on Monday.

The Delhi Congress chief will contest from the parliamentary constituency of North East Delhi while her predecessor in the state unit, Ajay Maken, is the candidate from the New Delhi parliamentary constituency.

Days ago, there was speculation that the veteran politician might contest the election from East Delhi. Instead, the Congress is fielding Arvinder Singh Lovely from there.

The Congress also fielded J P Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Rajesh Lilothia from North-West Delhi and Mahbal Mishra from West Delhi.

The announcement of candidates came after talks of alliance between the AAP and the Congress failed as the Rahul Gandhi led party wanted a tie up only in Delhi while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wanted the alliance to be forged in Haryana as well.
