Vijayawada: The healthcare sector in Andhra Pradesh is set for a major change as the newly elected chief minister has taken a slew of initiatives in this regard.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy hiked the salaries of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 as promised by him in his pre-poll campaigns. The new CM also announced the revamp of the 108 emergency ambulance service which was launched by his father and former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, late YS Rajashekhara Reddy.

Jagan, who took his oath as the newly elected chief minister on May 30, has also ordered an unbiased and a thorough performance report of the Primary Healthcare Services and ambulances in an attempt to improve the conditions of healthcare services in the state. He has also formed a committee of medical experts to ensure that these reports are submitted within 45 days of the order.

At several campaigns of Jagan and in the YSRC Party manifesto for the recent elections it was stated that revamp of health and medical departments of the state is a priority, keeping in mind the appalling conditions of healthcare services in government hospitals. Jagan promised that his government would take all the measures it can to provide better infrastructure and administration to develop healthcare facilities of the state.

The CM also stressed on the need for transparency in the system to ensure corruption-free administrators and workforce in the hospitals.
