The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday suspended MLC K Kavitha for alleged anti-party activities, a day after she accused her cousins and senior party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar of tarnishing party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s (KCR) image over the Kaleshwaram project.

In a statement, party general secretaries T Ravinder Rao and Soma Bharat Kumar announced that BRS president KCR had decided to suspend Kavitha with immediate effect. They said her conduct in recent times was damaging the party’s reputation.

The suspension follows Kavitha’s remarks after the Congress government ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, built during the previous BRS regime. She alleged that leaders close to KCR, particularly Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar, had enriched themselves through contractor dealings while KCR’s image was defamed by their actions.

Kavitha also claimed that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was backing the two leaders against her. She has been openly critical of certain BRS leaders for months, while simultaneously running political programmes under her cultural platform, Telangana Jagruti.

The rift within the party became visible in May, when a letter she wrote to KCR on internal matters was leaked. At the time, she alleged conspiracies within the party, saying KCR was “like a God surrounded by devils.”

In August, Kavitha was removed as honorary president of the BRS-affiliated trade union in Singareni Collieries. She had strongly objected to her replacement, accusing party leaders of sidelining her.
