Jammu/Punjab: More than 110 km of the India-Pakistan international border (IB) fence has been damaged, and nearly 90 Border Security Force (BSF) posts have been inundated by floods in the forward areas of Jammu and Punjab on Thursday.

Of the 2,289 km IB running along Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, the BSF guards 192 km in Jammu and 553 km in Punjab. Floods have damaged about 80 km of fencing in Punjab and 30 km in Jammu, with portions submerged, uprooted or tilted, they said.

Around 20 BSF posts in Jammu and 65–67 in Punjab have been affected, while several forward defence points (FDPs) on high ground were also impacted.

The BSF has launched a “mega exercise” to restore the fence and outposts, while drones, searchlights, boat patrols and electronic monitoring are being used to secure the areas until the water recedes.
