New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday held the third Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) this year at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi, to assess preparations for the upcoming nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The meeting, inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi, reviewed the readiness of State and Union Territory CEO offices for the revision exercise.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar shared strategies, challenges and best practices from previous SIR exercises to guide others. CEOs from across the country presented details on the number of electors, qualifying dates, digitisation and uploading of electoral rolls, and the mapping of current voters with past records.
The Commission also reviewed the rationalisation of polling stations to ensure none has more than 1,200 electors, along with measures to simplify document requirements for voter enrolment.
Further, the status of appointment and training of officials, including DEOs, EROs, AEROs, BLOs and BLAs, was discussed to ensure smooth execution of the nationwide exercise.
