New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 75 on Wednesday, with a flood of wishes pouring in from world leaders, eminent personalities and celebrities. While the BJP marked the occasion with a slew of welfare initiatives under its ongoing Sewa Pakhwada campaign, an AI-generated video titled “Modi Ji Birthday Bash” stole the spotlight online.

The animated clip, which has gone viral, reimagines Modi celebrating his birthday with baby-like caricatures of global leaders and Indian politicians. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is shown handing over a toffee-shaped gift marked “Melody” — a playful nod to the trending hashtag #Melodi. Former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin appear with gifts of tariffs and a toy S-400 missile system. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also feature in the clip. Indian leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Yogi Adityanath and Mamata Banerjee, are also depicted joining the fictional celebration. The video, a collaboration between creators Tapan Gupta and VJ Prakhar, has garnered over 600,000 views on Instagram.

Beyond the AI fun, world leaders sent real messages of admiration. US President Donald Trump personally phoned Modi, sparking talk of a thaw in ties after trade disputes. Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded Modi’s “great personal contribution” to strengthening bilateral ties and praised his global stature. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called him “a good friend” and said the India-Israel partnership was reaching “greater heights”. Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, recalling his visit to India for the 2023 G20 summit, described Modi as “a good friend to me and to Britain”. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also extended greetings.

Eminent figures from business and philanthropy also joined in. Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani described the day as “festive for 1.45 billion Indians” and wished that Modi continue to serve India when it turns 100. Bill Gates praised Modi’s leadership in India’s progress and global development, highlighting the Gates Foundation’s partnership with the government.

Within India, President Droupadi Murmu said Modi had instilled a culture of “achieving great goals” and earned global trust. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah also hailed his leadership, with Shah calling him “a living inspiration of the nation first motto”. BJP chief J P Nadda credited him with taking “transformative steps to build a Viksit Bharat”. Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, wished him good health. Film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Chiranjeevi and Vivek Oberoi added their greetings.

Modi spent his birthday in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar, launching nationwide health and nutrition initiatives for women and children, including the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar campaign and the eighth annual National Nutrition Month. At a public meeting, he hailed the rise of a “New India” that “brought Pakistan to its knees” during recent military confrontations, and urged people to embrace swadeshi goods.

In a post on X, the prime minister said he was “overwhelmed” by the affection and blessings received. “This strengthens and inspires me. I resolve to continue working with even greater energy and devotion so that we realise our dream of a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

Modi is now the third-longest serving Indian prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, and second in terms of uninterrupted tenure. Despite the BJP falling short of a majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the party under Modi has regained momentum with victories in Haryana and Maharashtra.
