His party colleagues, including senior leaders Bussy N Anand and CTR Nirmal Kumar, are facing a police case in connection with the September 27 stampede.

Breaking his silence since the tragedy struck in the rally in Karur that left 41 dead and several injured, TVK founder and actor Vijay claimed that he didn't visit the affected persons as his presence there would lead to an "unusual situation". "I have never faced such a painful situation in my life," he said in a video.

He also challenged Chief Minister M K Stalin to "do anything to him," but not his party colleagues. "CM sir, if you have a thought of seeking vengeance, you may do anything to me and not touch the party men," he said.

"I didn't visit Karur as it would lead to an unusual situation. I will meet you (families of victims, the injured) soon," he said in the video posted on his social media page. Vijay said the truth about the fatal incident would come out soon, and hinted he was ready to face action.

Vijay said that he took utmost care for the safety of party activists and said that he addressed the rally from the designated area.

"What happened should never have happened," he said, but wondered why a stampede happened at the fifth stop of the statewide rally, while the previous four events in different districts were held successfully.
