Guwahatti: Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg, who is also Zubeen Garg's cousin, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the singer's death in Singapore last month, a senior official said.

The DSP had appeared before the SIT at the CID headquarters in Guwahati for questioning and was subsequently arrested. He was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence, the official said.

The SIT was constituted under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure a quick and transparent investigation. So far, five individuals, including Sandipan Garg, have been arrested in connection with the case. Earlier, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer's manager, Siddharth Sharma, and his two band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta, were apprehended.

Led by DGP M P Gupta and Chief Investigating Officer Rosie Kalita, the SIT is exploring the possibilities of foul play and financial disputes surrounding the overseas event that may have led to the untimely death of the singer.
