Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for their “overwhelming support” to the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the local body elections, stating that the results signify the “victory of politics of good governance and development.”

Counting of votes for the posts of president and members across 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the state began at 10 am on Sunday, with initial trends indicating a comfortable lead for Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

The BJP said Shah also congratulated Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and all NDA workers for the victory. He extended his congratulations to Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan and all party workers for securing the highest number of seats in the urban local body polls.

Fadnavis on Sunday highlighted that the BJP set a record in the local body elections, with 48 per cent of councillors elected on the party symbol and candidates winning the posts of president in 129 municipal councils.

He credited the Mahayuti alliance’s strong showing to the organisational strength of the BJP and the development-focused agenda of the government, asserting that the BJP has once again emerged as the single largest party.
