Faridabad: Disturbing details have emerged a day after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving van in Faridabad and thrown out on a deserted road in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the survivor’s family, the two accused threatened to kill her when she screamed for help and then took turns to rape her. After driving around for nearly three hours, they allegedly pushed her out of the speeding vehicle on the sparsely populated Gurgaon–Faridabad road.
Police said the two accused, one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Madhya Pradesh, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The Maruti Eeco van used in the crime has been seized.
The woman, a mother of three, suffered serious head and facial injuries and required more than 12 stitches, police said. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, where doctors said her condition is stable.
Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh, who visited the survivor at the hospital on Thursday, criticised the state’s law and order situation and demanded that the case be tried in a fast-track court. “This is an inhumane and heinous crime. Claims of women’s safety ring hollow,” he said.
Police said the woman had been staying with her parents due to marital issues. On Monday evening, following an argument at home, she went to a friend’s house in Sector 23. Later, while waiting near Metro Chowk around midnight to take an auto-rickshaw to Kalyanpuri, she accepted a lift offered by the accused.
Instead of taking her to her destination, the men allegedly drove towards Gurugram and assaulted her inside the moving vehicle. She was thrown out near Raja Chowk in Faridabad around 3 am, police said. Her sister, who filed the complaint, said the woman was badly injured when found and was immediately admitted to hospital.
