Kollam: The Kerala police team probing the rape and alleged suicide of a 10-year-old girl in Kundara plans to investigate the role of the victim's mother and grandmother in the case.
Police suspect that the child's mother and grandmother were aware of the sexual abuse subjected on the child by her grandfather. They could be named as co-accused in the case. The grandmother is currently living in an old-age home.
The police had on Sunday arrested Victor, for raping his granddaughter for over a year. The girl allegedly committed suicide two months ago. The postmortem report had said that she was subjected to sexual abuse even days before her death.
Lured with money?
The victim's elder sister has given crucial leads to the police. In more baffling revelations in the case, the girl reportedly told the police that grandfather had assured her younger sister that he had invested Rs 4 lakh at the bank and that their house was in the name of the two kids.
Their father was in 2015 arrested for raping the younger sister, who was found dead at her home in January. He was then asked by the court to leave the house. Victor then took charge of the house.
Probe into minor boy's death
Soon after Victor's arrest was reported by the media, allegations of a minor boy's murder was also raised against him. The 14-year-old boy was found hanging in his house, which is next to Victor's, in 2010. The boy's mother had alleged that Victor and his son, Shibu, were behind the murder and had even threatened to kill their daughter. The family then moved out from Kundara to Alappuzha.
Police have reopened the probe into the case and questioned Victor's son. But he has denied the charges.
