Kochi: The state intelligence wing suspect that fake reports on some medical students being shown the video of sexual assault on a young Malayalam actress were being spread as part of a conspiracy to oust an ADGP from the probe team.
As the investigators are yet to recover the mobile phone used to capture the visuals of the sexual assault, a copy of these images forms the crucial evidence in the case. If during the trial, the witnesses turn hostile, then these pictures would be the prosecution's buttress point.
The copy of the visuals were submitted to the court in a sealed cover after they were examined by cyber-forenisc experts. The Kerala police suspected that the false news was planted and spread on social media with a malicious intent to sabotage the investigation and remove the ADGP from probe team.
The police had launched a probe to identify the people who fabricated and circulated the fake news that students of a private medical college were shown the video as part of anatomy studies. The Kerala Medico Legal Society has also submitted a complaint to the DGP, seeking a probe into the allegations.
The DGP has reportedly got a confidential report that a former senior cop, who has retired from service, and a forensic expert were behind this conspiracy to oust the ADGP.
The young actress was waylaid and assaulted in a moving car in Kochi on February 17. Main accused Pulsar Suni, who has worked as a driver for many film personalities, was arrested six days after the crime. The police arrested actor Dileep on conspiracy charges on July 10.
