Chennai: The Kerala government did not disclose the large-scale encroachments in Munnar in a report submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Manorama News reported Wednesday. The recently submitted report did not also include the encroachments by politicians and the list of encroachments submitted by the Idukki collector.
The NGT had registered a suo motu case against the land encroachments after media reported about the encroachment by private parties, government officials and political leaders.
Though the LDF government had initiated an eviction drive to reclaim the public land, the mission met with a roadblock, following differences of opinion between the allies of the ruling front. The government also flayed the revenue officials for demolishing a cross at Pappathichola in Munnar.
The government submitted a list of 330 buildings. However, the report does not say what steps were initiated against the encroachments.
