Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan has warned independent legislator P.C. George against making any comments about the young actress, who was attacked in a moving car in Kochi.
"If such irresponsible statements against the woman are repeated, then I will be forced to take all measures possible in my capacity as the assembly speaker,” Sreeramakrishnan said in a Facebook post.
The speaker noted that it was not for him to comment about an issue that was subjudice. "Law should takes its own course. But it was truly heartless of anyone to make comments such as how can a woman who was tortured in a moving car return to work in two days?” the speaker said, quoting P.C. George's now infamous remarks without naming the legislator.
“When someone with power makes ruthless comments, it becomes an encouragement to the criminals. No one should make such comments. If these are repeated, I would be forced to take action,” he concluded his post.
Earlier, the Women in Cinema Collective had come out demanding action against the Poonjar MLA for his insensitive comments against the actress.
The collective of Mollywood actresses had sought action against the legislator and requested the Kerala Assembly speaker to look into the matter and take the necessary action against the independent MLA. They had said they suspected if this was a conspiracy to help the accused in the case.
