Kottayam: The Kuruvilangad police have registered a case against Poonjar MLA P C George on charges of denigrating the nun who filed the complaint against the bishop.

Section 509 of the Indian penal code has been invoked against George, who allegedly made some comments regarding the nun during a news conference he addressed at Kottayam.

The punishment for outraging the modesty of a woman is a jail term of up to one year and fine.

George had said at the news meet that there was something suspicious in the nun filing a complaint after being raped for the thirteenth time, while she had kept quiet twelve times.

The nun had filed a complaint against George with the superintendent of police, Kottayam.

Neither the raging social media campaign against him nor the speaker's move to haul him up before the Assembly Ethics Committee has had any effect on P C George.

He had said he would not budge 'even a centimetre' from what he had told about 'the so-called nun.'

“I had withdrawn a word I had used against her out of decency. Nothing more,” he said.

Earlier, George had used the nastiest qualification to describe the nun who was fighting for justice against a superior, Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who had allegedly raped her 13 times. He also produced a copy of the complaint the nun had registered at the Kuravilangad police station in June this year.

According to George, the nun had raised the issue only after she was removed from the posts of 'Kerala-in-charge' and 'house superior.' The victim's family, too, was not spared.

“They were supposed to be very poor people. Now if you see the house of her brother, you will be stunned. Her sister has constructed a shopping complex. From where has all this money come?” he asked.
