Insensitive remarks: victim actress gives statement against PC George

PC George

Thrissur: The young woman, who was brutally attacked in a moving car in Kochi, has given her statement against P.C. George, MLA, who had repeatedly made insensitive remarks against her.

Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) chief M.C. Josephine directly took the statement from the victim actress.

The actress had accused the MLA of defaming her and had also written to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan against George's comments which, she said, had come at a time when she was trying to return to a normal life.

The Kerala Women's Commission had on Monday suo motu registered a case against George for his 'unsavory' remarks against the actress.

Commission sources had said the case was registered based on legal opinion and that speaker was informed about the development. George's remarks during a recent press conference amounted to defaming the actress and hurting womanhood, they said.

The Kerala Assembly speaker had earlier given permission to take the MLA's statements too. Describing George's remarks against the actress as 'inhuman', the speaker in a Facebook post had said he would take whatever action was possible against the legislator, if he continued to make 'insensitive' remarks against her. The assembly ethics committee will probe the remarks made by George.

The actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films besides Malayalam, was abducted and molested inside her car on February 17 in Kochi. Popular actor Dileep and six others, including prime accused Pulsar Suni, were arrested in connection with the incident.
