Tipped about a raid, Kodi Suni hides phones in jail's vegetable garden

Kodi Suni,a convict in the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, is suspected to have masterminded a robbery of gold in Kozhikode.

Thrissur: Kodi Suni and his gang seem to have received information about a possible police raid as they have buried their mobile phones in the vegetable garden of the Viyyur jail, where they are lodged.

Kodi Suni,a convict in the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, is suspected to have masterminded a robbery of gold in Kozhikode. He apparently executed the crime by directing an accomplice over the phone.

Jail authorities have information about Suni and others packing their phones and chargers in a plastic bag and concealing that in the vegetable garden in order to escape any unexpected raid.

Suni had earlier been caught for using mobile phones in the jail.

From the jail, Suni directed ‘Kaakka’ Ranjit to attack a car passenger and rob the gold he was carrying.

Suni has received ‘legal advice’ that there would be a raid at any moment to recover his phone.

During a raid 10 months ago, the superintendent had found three smartphones, power banks, data cables and SIM cards from the cell where Suni was lodged.

Three months later, a team led by the sub collector visited the jail for another raid.

But the permission for them to enter the premises was delayed by an hour, giving time for Suni and his gang to hide their phones.

According to information, a police team is expected to visit the jail on November 30 to question Suni in the robbery case.

Suni gets beef in his cell

Suni is believed to be getting a regular supply of beef, which is not on the jail menu.

Beef that is marinated and dried is supplied specifically to Suni’s cell.

Authorities had found beef in his cell during a raid eight months ago as well, but kept the information under wraps fearing it to become a controversy.

However, some jail staff continue to supply beef to his cell. Their bags aren’t checked at the jail gate, and this allows them to smuggle the meat inside.

They sneak in beef by hiding it in their lunch packs and then hand it over through the canteen, which is close to Suni’s cell.

Once it reaches the cell, they add oil and cook it in plates kept over glasses.
