Pollachi accident claims 3 Angamaly buddies, throws family into despair

Angamaly: The Pollachi accident that claimed the lives of three youths has left Angamaly residents in a shock.

They were killed when their car, from Angamaly, plunged into a canal near Pollachi Sunday morning. Another youth, also part of the team, is still missing.

The bodies of Jithin Joy, 27; Amal Paul, 20; and Jackson Ouseph, 20; were retrieved, while search is on for Rijo Johny, 33.

The accident dealt a severe blow to the family, which lost three children, of siblings. Rijo Johny had come home from Dubai two days ago after as many years abroad and was on a trip with his maternal cousins.

Amal and Jackson were the sons of Mini and Thresya, Rijo's mother Rosily's siblings.

Rijo's friend Jithin was also part of the trip. Jithin's friend Alpha too joined them. The car belonged to a friend of Rijo's.

Amal joined Rijo and Jackson from Ezhattumugham. Jithin and Alpha joined them from Parambayam. Their destination was Munnar. From Munnar, they returned by 5am Sunday. On the way, they stopped at Udumala for tea.

Ten minutes into their journey after the tea break, they met with the accident. Alpa and Rijo were seated in the rear. Rijo was flung out of the car in the impact. Alpha managed to escape.

The canal is more than 12-foot deep. A search is on to trace Rijo, but the operations are hampered by the presence of several tunnels.
