Pregnant women to get reserved seats in govt and private buses

One fourth of the seats in a bus are reserved for women – 11 seats in a bus that has 48. One of the 11 will now be kept for pregnant women.

Malappuram: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Act has been amended to include the provision for reservation of at least one seat for pregnant women on private as well as government buses. The action follows a directive from the Human Rights Commission.

As per the new amendment one seat from those reserved for women in buses will be spared for pregnant women.

An earlier directive had earmarked one seat for women who travel with babies under the age of three.
