Kollam boy's murder: Mother's arrest recorded, motive still unknown

Jayamol’s version is that she killed Jithu over a property dispute and that no one else was involved.

Kollam: The police on Thursday recorded the arrest of Jayamol, mother of Jithu Job, the ninth standard student who was found brutally murdered on his house compound. Officials said that they had concluded after questioning Jayamol that she herself had carried out the gruesome crime.

Jayamol’s version is that she killed Jithu over a property dispute and that no one else was involved. She told the police that she had dissuaded Jithu from visiting her husband’s house. However, the boy paid no heed. When he returned, Jithu informed Jayamol that his grandmother had told him she had no plans to give a share of her property to them. This reportedly enraged Jayamol, who choked Jithu with the shawl of her churidhar.

The police ruled out a conspiracy behind the murder. The body was burnt at two places – behind the house and a nearby rubber plantation, they said.

The city police commissioner on Thursday said that the motive behind the murder was unknown.

The funeral of Jithu was held on Thursday after an autopsy was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Medical college Hospital.

Meanwhile, Job’s father refuted the charge that property dispute had led to the murder. He said that he had no such issues with his children. Neither Job nor Jayamol had demanded a share of the property, he said. “My daughter-in-law faced no psychiatric problems,” Job’s father added.

The burnt and mutilated body of Jithu Job, son of Job T John of Kureeppilli, Nedumbana, was found in a banana plantation on the compound of his house on Wednesday evening. The hands, one leg, a foot and neck were chopped. The portion below the knee on one leg was splintered. The face was entirely burnt.

The police had earlier taken into custody the mother and a youth, suspecting their involvement in the crime. However, the youth was later let off after police found that he had no role in the incident.
