Kottayam: It was truly an intervention from above that saved this priest from an angry temple elephant.
The events unfolded at the Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple, Kottayam, at 3 am, Monday.
The hapless priest was sitting atop an apparently tormented elephant as part of the temple parade. The tusker lost its cool and suddenly turned violent after another jumbo jabbed it with its tusk.

The elephant tried to shake down the man with vigorous body movements. A few people, safely perched atop a terrace above the pachyderm, threw him a rope. As the man caught hold of the rope and was pulled up in true military style, onlookers heaved a sigh of relief. Luckily for him, the animal did not fancy pulling him down as he was pulled up. Truly, intervention from above.
