Changanassery: A woman and her two children are running from pillar to post trying to bring the body of their breadwinner who died more than a month ago in Saudi Arabia due to a heart attack.
Renuka was informed about the death of her husband Mammood Mulakuzhisseri Rajesh Thankappan (46) due to a heart attack on March 9. He was an employee in Al Mohasal Company at Al Hasa in Saudi Arabia.
A native of Ochira, who used to share accommodation with Rajesh, had called Renuka to inform her about the death. After Renuka's attempts to bring the body back home failed, the family doesn't know what to do.
Renuka had sent a power of attorney that was needed to secure the release of the body to Saudi Arabia on March 12. Initially she was told that the body will be released within two weeks. But later, citing reasons such as unavailability of police report, absence of doctor who has to sign the documents and the need to conduct post-mortem, the process to send the body is being delayed, alleged Rajesh's brother Manoj.
Rajesh was the sole breadwinner of the family that included Renuka and her two children. Since they don't have a house of their own, the family lives in a rented accommodation near Renuka's house. Rajesh, who had been working abroad for the past 20 years, last came home in January.
He had spoken on phone to his sons Renjith and Rejin for quite long two hours before his death. During the phone call, he had said the he wanted to return for good and buy a plot to build a house. What the family heard that next was the news about his death.
The family had approached the embassy through Kodikunnil Suresh MP seeking its intervention in the matter. They have written to the chief minister and to the Norka office too.
