Keralite youth, who killed Brit teen in car race, jailed in UK

London: A Keralite youth has been sentenced to six years and nine months in jail for killing an 18-year-old in a car accident in Britain.

The convict, Joshua Cherukara, belongs to the third-generation of a Keralite family living in Britain.

Local dailies reported the news with the photograph of Joshua breaking down in tears after hearing the verdict in the back of a police car.

Joshua and friend Harry Cable were racing in two separate cars, when Joshua lost control of his car and knocked down a jogger on the footpath.

The deceased was identified as A-level student William Dorey, a British national.

The Newcastle Crown Court sentenced the accused after they admitted to their crime. Harry was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail. Both Joshua and Harry will be banned from driving for four years after their release.

The CCTV camera footage of the accident helped in facilitating the inquiry and hearing in the case.

The accident took place on May 7, 2017, when Dorey was returning home after jogging. The police inquiry had found that dangerous driving had caused the tragedy.
