Thiruvananthapuram: Former chief of Kerala police T P Senkumar has suggested that the force, right from an SI to the DGP, should be free to act.
In a written submission, Senkumar offered corrective measures to the Kerala police force and the home department which are facing flak over a serious of omissions.
Senkumar presented his suggestions and recommendations to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the police force at a conference of former DGPs, called by the chief minister.
Senkumar has explained in his note that corrupt IPS officers should be kept away from key places and the domination of police associations at stations should be kept under check.
He also warned that an excess of security is dangerous and that top cops who organise it should be considered risky. "Such security is a ploy to keep the chief minister away from the people," he said. "There's no need for ambulances and fire engines to trail the chief minister."
"There should not be a third centre of power in between the chief minister and the DGP," he noted.
