Southern Railways has a new trick to ensure punctuality of delayed trains!

Kochi: Southern Railways has found an easy way to ensure punctuality of trains. From Wednesday, Southern Railways has made the running time of delayed trains as their new official time.

The arrival timings of 87 services in divisions such as Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad and Chennai that lag in maintaining punctuality have thus been changed. However, there is no change in the timings for stations falling in between the journey.

The Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur Venad Express has to reach Shoranur by 12.55 pm. This has been changed to 1.25 pm. Kanniyakumari-KSR Bengaluru Island Express arrival time has been changed from 7.20 am to 7.30 am. The Jan Shatabdi Express that had to reach Kannur by 11.50 pm can now reach the station at 12.20 am.

Additional time has been given to trains for the last two stations. This is above the existing buffer time. The new timetable that was introduced in Kerala last year had extended the running time of trains in the state citing maintenance works. The new timings supersede those.

1 hour 6 minutes to travel 17 km

Punctuality of a train is determined by looking at the departure and arrival time. It doesn't consider if the train is late at any station that comes in between. To ensure punctuality, buffer time has been provided between the last two stations.

The buffer time given to Venad Express for the 17 km journey from Wadakkanchery to Shoranur is one hour six minutes from Wednesday. Which means, even an hour's delay won't affect the punctuality of the train!
