Kochi: The control of information is moving to undemocratic terrains, actress Padmapriya has said. She was taking part in the session, 'Free thought or prethought,' as part of the Manorama Freedom Concalve 2018.

The advent of social media was helping the 'uninitiated' to spread their views, she pointed out.
The level of intolerance had reached a crescendo where even an innocuous opinion was being given the colour of hatred. She said her fellow actor Parvathy was at the receiving end of such an attack.
As a take on this, young writer Manu S Pillai said the din all around and was testimony to the fact that the people resorting to noise were afraid of new and independent thought and ideas.
He said bullying was not restricted to the cyberspace. There was intellectual and cultural bullying too.
Writer M Mukundan said the culture of extermination was affecting the most needy sections of society. The need of the hour was to take all information to the lowest levels of society, he said.
Manu Pillai pointed out that a BJP leader had said society should be wary of fake news. “We all know which party is the factory of fake news,” he said.
