New Delhi: Indian Navy’s sailing sensation Cdr Abhilash Tomy has been conferred President’s Nao Sena Medal, on the eve of 70th Republic Day.

According to Ministry of Defence officials, Cdr Tomy has been awarded with prestigious Nao Sena Medal, Devotion to Duty, NM (DD). He is already a recipient of Kirti Chakra.

Cdr Tomy had cruised into the history books on April 6, 2013 when he became the first Indian (79th in the world) to complete a solo, unassisted, non-stop circumnavigation under sail on INSV Mhadei (Sagar Parikrama-2 mission).

He had then set out on a mission from Mumbai on November 1, 2012 and was received by then Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on return. This rare fete fetched him a Kirti Chakra.
