Pay more for Milma milk from Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: Pay more for Milma milk from Thursday. The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation has decided to hike prices by Rs 4 per litre.

A litre Milma milk may cost between Rs 44 to 48 for different variants. Milk in yellow and light blue covers will cost Rs 44, and that in dark blue Rs 46. High-fat milk sold in saffron and green covers will cost Rs 48.

Covers printed with old prices will be used until new ones are printed. Rise in cattle feed costs necessitated the price hike, said the milk cooperative which is popularly known as Milma.

The price has been raised to help farmers meet production cost. With the new pricing, Rs 3.35 will go to farmers, Rs 0.16 to milk societies and Rs 0.32 to agents.

The cooperative also decided to boost online sales.

Milma wanted a Rs 7 rise, with 80% of the revenue going to farmers.

A meeting presided by Minister P Raju decided on the revised milk prices on Monday. (Raju is the Kerala Minister for Forests, Animal Husbandry and Zoos.)

Milma had last increased the prices in February 2017.
