The Kerala government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on June 6 (Friday) and a public holiday on June 7 (Saturday) in view of Eid al-Adha (Bakrid), revising its earlier announcement that Friday would be a working day.
Initially, a public holiday was declared for June 6. However, following confirmation from religious scholars that Bakrid will be celebrated on June 7, the government amended the holiday schedule. However, the decision was severely criticised, forcing the government to revise the order.
As per the revised order, all educational institutions in the state, including professional colleges, will remain closed on Friday and Saturday. However, government offices and public sector undertakings will function as usual on Friday. A full public holiday will be observed on Saturday across the state.
