Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds will lash isolated places in Kerala till July 20. As per the alert, heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7-20 cm is expected in the state from July 14 to 20. IMD has sounded yellow and orange alerts in several districts. However, no rain alert is issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts during this period. According to the forecast, northern districts, especially Kannur and Kasaragod, will receive heavy rainfall for the next five days.

The district authorities, as well as the Kerala Disaster Management Authority, advised people to exercise extreme caution as there are chances of floods, mudslides and landslides during heavy rain. People residing close to river banks and coastal areas are asked to stay vigilant and follow the instructions of the local government bodies.
