Kozhikode: The Thamarassery police have booked an expat for allegedly insulting late CPM veteran and former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan in a social media post. Abid Adivaram, a native of Pilassery near Adivaram, has been booked under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act for making derogatory and provocative remarks against the deceased leader.
According to the First Information Report, Abid referred to the former Chief Minister as “communal” in a Facebook post that was deemed inflammatory and capable of inciting unrest. The police initiated action based on a complaint filed by advocate Sandeep Pootharpoyil of Kedavur, Thamarassery.
Abid, known for his provocative writings on social media, posted the remarks on July 21. The post was later deleted following widespread backlash from various sections of society, including the DYFI, the youth wing of the CPM. DYFI activists also pasted protest posters on his office in Thamarassery.
Meanwhile, Malayalam actor Vinayakan has also drawn criticism for a poem he shared on Facebook in the wake of Achuthanandan’s death. Sijo Joseph, Youth Congress Ernakulam district president, filed a complaint with the State Police Chief, alleging that the poem was disrespectful and hurt public sentiment.
