Kannur: In a bid to make Khadi more appealing to the younger generation, the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board is rolling out a special Onam collection featuring designer wear, kidswear and Khadi silk sarees. The initiative was announced by P Jayarajan, Vice Chairman of the Khadi Board, at a promoters’ meet held in Kannur on Friday.

The meeting was part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming Onam Khadi Fair, themed "I too need khadi", which will run from August 1 to September 4. A range of new products, including designer shirts, churidars, tops, kidswear, Khadi kasavu sarees, western wear and trendy sling bags etc., will be introduced to attract children and youth to the Khadi movement.

The event was held at the Kannur District Panchayat Hall under the aegis of the District Khadi Village Industries Office and the Payyannur Khadi Kendra. The meeting was presided over by District Panchayat President K Ratnakumari.

Representatives from various service organisations, the Bar Association, Library Council, Kannur Press Club and other stakeholders participated in the discussion. Several suggestions were put forward to strengthen the Khadi sector and enhance support for Khadi-based enterprises.

Speakers at the event included C Krishnan, Chairman of the Khadi Welfare Fund Board, District Information Officer P P Vineesh,Lead Bank Manager Dr K S Ranjith, V Shibu, Director of Payyannur Khadi Kendra and Soly Devassy, Khadi Project Officer.
