Shoranur: Shoranur Junction, one of Kerala’s largest and busiest railway stations, is set for a major transformation. Renovation works worth ₹12.94 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme are in full swing and are expected to be completed before October 2.
Once finished, the station will offer upgraded amenities and improved parking facilities, ensuring a smoother experience for passengers. A revamped and more spacious entrance is being built with dedicated lanes for vehicles. Around 5,000 sq ft of space has been earmarked exclusively for passenger vehicle parking. A landscaped garden, a bus waiting area, and a high-mast light are also being installed in front of the station.
Infrastructure upgrades include completed drainage work, a new retaining wall, and the construction of a link road. A new station building at the entrance and an air-conditioned waiting hall on Platform 1 are already operational. Platform widening and the installation of four lifts serving seven platforms have also been completed.
The renovated Shoranur Junction will be inaugurated along with the revamped stations at Pollachi Junction, Kasaragod, and Farook.
Final phase of the work underway
As part of the final phase of construction, a decision has been made to complete all pending tasks within two months. The old structures on Platform 4 will soon be demolished. Land in front of the station, currently under the Public Works Department, will be acquired and used for setting up various railway stalls. The old Railway Mail Service office building is being modernised and converted to house multiple railway offices under one roof. Renovation of the footbridge is also in progress as part of the comprehensive upgrade plan.
