Kochi: All regular classes at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will be conducted online from August 1 to 5, following the detection of contagious diseases in student hostels.  The Vice-Chancellor issued the directive to curb the spread of infections.

Four students tested positive for the H1N1 virus, three diagnosed two weeks ago and one on July 30, while seven others contracted chickenpox. Of the infected, ten are hostel residents.

Students, except non-Keralites, have been asked to vacate their rooms immediately. The University has begun sanitising and fumigating the hostel buildings.

“There’s no need to panic. There are only a few cases, and the measures are purely precautionary,” said Arun A U, the University’s sub-registrar.
