Police in Venjaramoodu have arrested five individuals involved in an inter-state job fraud racket offering fake appointments at ISRO and VSSC.
In a major crackdown on an inter-state job fraud racket, the Venjaramoodu police have arrested five individuals, including a woman and her husband, for duping job seekers with fake appointment letters purportedly from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The arrested have been identified as Ramsi (35) of Pothencode, her husband Ajmal (29) of Ochira; Murugesan (59) of Bhajanamadam Street, Seelathikulam in Tirunelveli; Vishnuraj (33) and Suresh Babu (50) from Attingal.
According to police, the gang defrauded at least 36 individuals across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, collecting over ₹4 crore by offering bogus job offers in ISRO and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). Seized from the accused were laptops, multiple SIM cards, mobile phones, and fake appointment letters bearing counterfeit ISRO and VSSC seals. Bank documents show deposits amounting to ₹1.5 crore into Ramsi’s account. Murugesan alone is believed to have swindled ₹2.25 crore from 27 individuals in Tamil Nadu by offering fraudulent ISRO jobs.
Investigations revealed that Ramsi orchestrated the creation of fake appointment letters and seals, aided by Vishnuraj and Suresh Babu. The latter, who runs a seal manufacturing unit in Attingal, collaborated in producing forged ID cards and seals bearing the name of VSSC and the Thumba Administrative Office.
The arrests followed complaints by two women from Venjaramoodu, who reported being duped in March 2024. The accused had introduced Ramsi as a mechanical engineer at VSSC and promised them administrative officer posts. The women transferred ₹8 lakh in multiple instalments to Ramsi’s bank account.
In February, Ramsi and Ajmal visited one of the complainants at her home and handed over a sealed fake appointment letter, instructing her not to open it immediately. After receiving no further updates, the woman filed a complaint with the Venjaramoodu police.
Similar cases have been registered against the accused at Vattappara and Attingal police stations.
The arrests were made by a team led by Attingal DySP S Manjulal and included SHO Azad Abul Kalam, Sub-Inspectors Sajith and Shan, and ASIs Rajeena, Gokul, Aseem, and Siyas. The accused have been produced in court.
